Case Study: Interim Management
Following strategy development and deployment, a BCM Work Area Recovery team needed operational leadership…
Background
- C7 Consulting had been originally engaged to develop and deploy a “clean sheet” work area recovery strategy for a UK headquartered international bank
- Following a hugely successful 18 month programme to develop, syndicate and deploy the new strategy, the bank needed assistance in transitioning the new services into full operational mode
- C7 Consulting was asked to lead the team and develop a succession plan for the long term running of the service
Approach
- C7 Consulting’s typical approach to strategy development and deployment had
- Fully engaged all areas of the business to ensure requirements were understood
- Also ensured the major positives and challenges (perceived or otherwise) around current services were clearly articulated
- Leveraged current client resources to build a strong team to help gather and understand requirements
- Involved the team in critical input into the development of the strategy
- Continued with the same team through deployment of the strategy
- In doing this, C7 Consulting was able to ensure
- Knowledge transfer of every aspect of the strategy and the services underpinning it was implicit, with all team members fully understanding the rationale as well as the mechanics of service provision
- A strong team bond had been built
- Very strong relationships with key external service providers were fostered across the team
- Following successful service delivery, this all facilitated seamless transition into operational mode
- The internal client team were comfortable and appreciative of the leadership C7 Consulting provided, which resulted in a natural progression to operational leadership while a succession plan was developed
- The succession plan then
- Mapped out the end to end timeframe
- Ensured detailed role definitions and profiles were in place and created them where gaps existed
- Engaged both internal and external recruitment channels for sourcing the best candidates
- Performed multi-stage interviews for selected candidates following a standard pro-forma
- Shortlisted candidates for senior management approval/final selection
- Created handover documentation as reference materials for the new operational leader of the service
- Provided on site support for the new lead until sufficiently comfortable with the service being run – a “soft landing”
- Support was also provided post-engagement when required (free of charge)
Outcome
- A full time operational leader of the service was engaged within 6 months
- Zero interruptions to service through the succession plan execution and once the new operational lead was in place were testimony to C7 Consulting’s ability to lead teams on an operational basis and the thoroughness of the overall process
